7th April
I'd been looking forward to going down to the river all day. The Fishpal website said the river height at Dolauhirion Bridge was 1ft 1in and falling. I got out the spinning kit and set off at about 18.45. When I had parked up and tackled up I climbed the style and waded across the field, very soggy. The sun was on the wane but the evening was very spring like, I put up three ducks from the ditch which clattered into the air. Arriving at the river bank conditions looked promising, the river was high but not overly so. First cast of the season went out across the water in a lovely arc, as the line came round on the current I began my retrieve. Now preseason preparation is everything. I had dismantled and cleaned my reel, renewed my tippett, purchased new spinners and made ready. However as I was retrieving my first impeccable cast my spool fell off, the overwind left me with a ball of tagleatelli, worse than spaghetti apparenly. Fifteen minutes later and I was still unravelling. All these things are sent to try us. After what seemed a lifetime I managed to repair the problem and resumed fishing. The light was begining to fade and although a few small splashes, Brownies?, came from across the river nothing but the bottom troubled my Flying - C. At 21.00 I decided to call it a night and proceeded to the Blue Bell post haste where Dai Butch regaled me with stories of his darts prowess and Man Utd went down to Bayern Munich. I shall look forward to a better prepared outing soon. More than Man U can M
