Ian Richards makes it four

Ian writes June 26th:

Was on the river last night and there were lots of fish moving. Water height was falling and clrearing well. Fished from about 8pm until 11:30pm and caught two fish,one at 11/2lbs and the beauty in the attached photo which weighed 6lbs 2oz. Both took a silver stoat size 11 on a low water single hooks fished on an intermediate line. There were a couple of very big fish splashing in Glantowy pool.

Ian was out on the 19th June:

Please find attached a photo of a sewin I caught yesterday. It tipped the scales at just under 5lbs. Just to prove how enigmatic sewin are I caught this within 5 minutes of starting fishing at 7pm in bright sunshine. Lost another smaller fish about 2minutes later and then fished through until 11pm and didn't have another touch. Fish was caught on a standard trout sized 10 Silver Stoat and intermediate line. River was still had a few inches above summer levels but was crystal clear.

First visit for Ian June 13th:

Just thought I would let you know that I picked up my first sewin last night at 1 3/4lbs, on a size 10 black pennel on the dropper. Fished from about 5pm until 10pm. River up about a foot with good colour when I arrived. Falling rapidly and clearing quite a lot by the time I left. All the colour was coming from the Bran as main river clear as a bell above junction.

 

 

 

NEWS LETTER 10/03/11

Dear Member,
Fishing conditions were far from perfect again last season.  The river was often up & down like a yoyo and did not give fish an opportunity to settle in the pools.  Consequently night fly fishing was limited.  Sewin stocks were generally disappointing with a worrying lack of small shoal fish appearing in July and August.
A regular stocking programme has seen salmon catches improve especially on the lower river.  We hope this improvement will benefit the upper river this season. 
Issues we have been involved with:

                     Following last year’s success we will again be organising a workday on the river, all members being welcome.  Arrangements will be finalised at the AGM.
The committee have decided to recommend to the AGM that all permit prices remain unchanged from last season.
A catch return for the previous season will also have to be completed before a new season ticket can be issued.

The charges would be as follows: Full Permit (To cover all waters):
Season Non-locals £210     Local £185
There will be a discount of £20 to those members renewing their permit before 1st April 2011

Bob & Tim

Bob and Tim on the River Towy Lower Beat Llandovery

Llandovery anglers Bob Hanley and his son Tim, were the first anglers to donate Sea Trout to this years Catch and Hatch scheme.  Both the  5lb hen and 4lb cock fish were caught on Llandovery Angling Associations lower beat.  With Sea Trout and Salmon in seriouse decline, in our Welsh rivers, all efforts must be made to regenerate these runs before it is too late. The Carmarthen Fishermans Federation are continuing with The Towy Restoration Scheme, and all Sea Trout and Salmon "lip hooked" and donated to the hatchery, will be invaluable to the future of our stocks.

Minister visit to Llyn-y-Fan Hatchery

Rural Affairs Minister, Elin Jones visited Llyn-y-fan Hatchery Thursday 17th June.

Viv Bradshaw and Olwen Hardwick from the hatchery were the winners of the prestigious "Countryside Alliance Rural Enterprise Award" for Wales, back in January. They were nominated by our own treasurer Clive Davies who is also Secretary of the Carmarthen Fishermans Federation.

Due to the severe weather conditions that visited us last January, Viv and Olwen were unable to attend the Awards presentation in the Sennedd.

Elin took time out from her busy schedule to spend several hours at the hatchery. She was shown first hand the conservation work being undertaken. She also discussed, in detail, River Towy angling issues with Clive and Steve Bowley, Chairman of the CFF.

Rachel Evans, Countryside Alliance Director for Wales joined the group for informal discussions during the afternoon.

NEWS 2010

CAMARTHENSHIRE RIVERS TRUST

As you may know the Carmarthenshire Riverst Trust (CRT) is managing a large project for the improvement of the river catchments of Carmarthenshire ("Afonydd Sir Gaerfyrddin - The Rivers of Carmarthenshire") . This is being done through activities such as habitat restoration, fencing, coppicing, bank revetment, liming, easement of blockages etc. Most of this work is being carried out by local contractors.

  Inputs by the Trust itself however are voluntary and we therefore need as much publicity as possible in order to recruit help and support for our work. To this end we have constructed a special website which gives details of our work: www.carmsriverstrust.org
