Our newly acquired beat on the River Usk opened on 3rd March and produced a few early season Brown Trout on a combination of both nymphs and dries. Heavy rainfall during the month kept the river level rising and falling, yet there were plenty of opportunities to venture out with the fly rod.

Heavy rainfall continued into April and the month produced some nice Brownies off our Towy beats which opened on 1st April. 

Trout fishing remained good throughout May and it was hoped that the periods of heavy rainfall and resulting spates would encourage a run of migratory fish into our beats. 

June however, apart from a spate during the first week, remained warm and dry and the river fell back to normal summer levels. There were reports of a few Seatrout being caught at night. Air and water temperatures continued to rise as a result of heatwave conditions which lasted well into August. The high water temperatures put fishing on hold throughout July and most of August.  

Wet weather and cooler temperatures returned during the first week of September and a couple of spates during the first 2 weeks resulted in some nice catches of Seatrout.
